A SOUND OF THUNDER

Recently I had the chance to finally watch a movie I had been waiting to see for quite some time.
The movie was ‘A Sound of Thunder’ based on the original short story by Ray Bradbury.
The movie stars Ben Kingsley and Edward Burns.
I originally saw the trailer for this movie and was in total awe, I was so amazed that finally someone had made this movie and it was being released.
Well, when the movie made its way to the theater I never got the chance to see it as it seemed to be out for only a short time, and being the busy person I am (that’s just an excuse for being excessively lazy) I had to wait for the dvd release.
The dvd release seemed to take an extremely long time since the movie was in theaters in mid 2005, I didn’t expect it to take until the end of march 2006 for it to be available on dvd.
I should have known that this was a sign of an incredibly, unimaginably, stupendously, crappy film…….
I mean, the short story really gave any competent film maker a lot to go off of.
How one could screw up something this bad is beyond me.
Where to start…
Well, first the visuals. The ‘special’ effects were indeed, special, like little yellow school bus special.
Did they hire a high school media lab to do this or what?
I’ve seen better renderings in my morning cereal.
The acting of course you would expect to be well, good being that Ben Kingsley and Edward Burns have been around Hollywood for some time. I can’t see how either of them could get a job after this bomb. Between Burns’ forced smart guy/hero routine and Kingsley’s bad guy act, I can see why this movie didn’t make it into any ones top list of 2005 movies.
The story was going to be my only salvation from this horror I had subjected myself to.
Alas, I was so very wrong about this.
With out going into detail and boring you any further, let’s just say, this is not how I imagined this movie, at all, I mean really, I could have had a class of 3rd graders barf up something that was full of better action, a more cohesive story line and much better acting.
All in all, I can without a doubt say I will never suggest this movie to any one, unless I want them to suffer an untimely death due to lack of interest.
